During an adjustment, the spinal joints are separated very slightly, causing a drop in pressure in the synovial fluid between joints, the release of a gas bubble, and that signature “POP” sound.

These are gases, like oxygen, nitrogen and carbon dioxide, released from your joints. Gas gets trapped in small cavities of your joints when you move and stretch. While this gas release may be more apparent during a chiropractic adjustment, you experience a similar sound when you crack your knuckles.

During the adjustment, you may be asked to lie on a specially designed table. By placing his or her hands in precise locations and using controlled movements, your chiropractor works on individual joints to improve mobility and relieve discomfort.
